Connelly Award for Excellence in Army Food Service competition. The 391st MP Bn., one of four Army-wide finalists, selected Camp Blanding, Florida, as their location for the final level of testing in the competition.

A military police battalion from Columbus, Ohio, has been recognized as the U.S. Army Reserve component winner for the 2017 Philip A. Connelly Competition. The Department of the Army’s Connelly Awards is an annual military competition, which uses military and civilian evaluators from the National Restaurant Association to recognize military units for excellence in Army food service. This year’s winner was the 391st Military Police Battalion, under the 200th MP Command, representing the U.S. Army Reserve. “The competition itself is a tremendous amount of work,” said 1st Lt. Norman Large, Battalion Food Service Officer, who led the team from the 391st in the competition and ultimately the grand prize. That work began more than a year and a half ago for the 391st culinary team, and took them through competition against all of the Army Reserve culinary teams – which they beat – and into the Connelly. The team’s members varied from three years to 40 years of culinary experience but for the majority of them, this was their first time competing at the Army-wide level. “This is the first time the 200th MP Command has actually won. It’s monumental,” said Chief Warrant Officer 3 Sharion E. Washington, from the Logistics Management Division, 200th MP Cmd. The 391st will be recognized at an award ceremony on Friday, May 19, at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Chicago, prior to the 2017 National Restaurant Association Show in Chicago, held May 20-23.
