Outstanding Food Service Ney Award Winners Named

MECHANICSBURG, Pa. (NNS) -- Secretary of the Navy (SECNAV) Donald C. Winter announced the 2007 winners of the Captain
Edward F. Ney Memorial Awards for Outstanding Food Service on Feb. 2.

First-place winners will be recognized during the Joint Military and International Food Service Executives Association (IFSEA) awards
presentation March 31 in Kansas City, Mo., which celebrates the 50th ceremony of the food service excellence awards.

Ney Afloat general mess winners follows.

Submarine category:
First place: USS Cheyenne (SSN 773)
Runner up: USS Montpelier (SSN 765)
Honorable mention: USS Kentucky Gold (SSBN 737)

Small Afloat category:
First place: USS Taylor (FFG 50)
Runner up: USS Crommelin (FFG 37)

Medium Afloat category:
First place: USS Oscar Austin (DDG 79)
Runner up: USS Curtis Wilbur (DDG 54)
Honorable mention: USS Hopper (DDG 70)

Ney Ashore general mess winners in the Continental U.S. General Mess category:
First place: Navy Region Mid-Atlantic Naval Amphibious Base, Little Creek, Va.
Runner up: Navy Region Southwest Naval Station, San Diego

Overseas General Mess category:
First place: Navy Region Hawaii Silver Dolphin Bistro
Runner up: Navy Region Southeast Naval Station Guantanamo Bay Cuba

"The Captain Edward F. Ney Awards recognize one of the top quality of life issues for our Sailors across the globe," said Capt.
David M. Fitzgerald, deputy commander, Navy Family Support, Naval Supply Systems Command. "We're proud of our 2007 winners.
Their outstanding creativity, combined with presentation skills and their ability to serve delicious, healthy foods every day, is a
tremendous achievement."

The Ney Memorial Awards Program is co-sponsored by the SECNAV and IFSEA. IFSEA is a nonprofit food service association
dedicated to enhancing the professional image and growth of persons serving the food service industry. The awards encourage
excellence in Navy food service programs, with the objective of improving the quality of life for Navy personnel.

The evaluation teams were made up of senior Navy culinary specialists and IFSEA representatives.

In addition to recognizing Navy food service winners, the ceremony also recognizes other food service excellence winners in the
39th Philip A. Connelly Awards (Army) presentation, 22nd Marine Corps General W.P.T. Hill Awards presentation, 13th Coast Guard
Awards presentation, and 15th Captain David M. Cook Military Sealift Command Awards presentation.

NAVSUP's primary mission is to provide U.S. naval forces with quality supplies and services. With headquarters in Mechanicsburg,
Pa., and employing a worldwide workforce of more than 25,500 military and civilian personnel, NAVSUP oversees logistics programs
in the areas of supply operations, conventional ordnance, contracting, resale, fuel, transportation, and security assistance. In
addition, NAVSUP is responsible for quality of life issues for Naval forces, including food service, postal services, Navy Exchanges,
and movement of household goods.

More than 3,400 regular and Reserve Supply Corps officers of the Navy Supply Corps are responsible for supply and logistics
support for the ships of the active fleet and hundreds of Naval shore installations worldwide, providing combat capability through
logistics.
