MARINE CORPS BASE CAMP LEJEUNE, N.C. (Sept. 8, 2006) -- In light of their first place finish at the II Marine Expeditionary Force
level at the Maj. Gen. W. P. T. Hill Memorial Award for Food Service Excellence competition, Aug. 22, Food Service Company,
Combat Logistics Regiment 27, 2nd Marine Logistics Group, prepares for the Marine Corps-wide competition, Oct. 4.

Having beaten 2nd Marine Division and Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point, N.C., for the win, the company feels a sense of pride
and accomplishment, but they know the future still holds the major prize.

“We are all excited when we found out we won, but we are still focused on the overall objective of winning the main event,” said Chief
Warrant Officer 2 Lakendrick D. Wright, operations officer for the company. “Of course it felt good to see my Marines reap the
benefits and recognition they deserved.”

Since they had to build their site again from scratch, the designing and constructing began a several days ago at Training Zone Owl.

They are building the same structure they built for the II MEF competition, but plan to make a few upgrades.

“We plan on building the same structure that won us the first event, but redefining and fine tuning our current site will definitely put
us over the top,” said Wright. “This time we are going to concentrate more on all the little details that will set us apart from the rest.”

As far as winning the main event, Wright believes the company’s chances of winning are as good as any because he has complete
confidence in his Marines.

“They are some of the best Marines the Corps has to offer and I know no doubt they will rise to the occasion,” Wright added.

“If there’s one thing I want my Marines to take away from this competition it’s to be proud of who you are,” said Wright. “Be proud of
your profession and take pride in what you have learned and accomplished.”

The judges will grade in three categories: site layout, meal preparation and administration records.

Site layout includes the security element and people flow, meal preparation includes recipe accuracy and speed, and administration
records deals with official publications and their standard operating procedures.

“The competition isn’t over, so once again let’s not only win, let’s learn,” said Wright
