Coast Guard Culinary Competition
U.S. Coast Guard | FS1 Stacey Russell | October 20, 2008

A little background on the competition.

My command and I have talked on several occasions about the possibility  of us hosting a cooking competition. I recently received
orders to the CGC Eagle and I depart on 31 Oct. I thought there was no better time than the present to put on the competition.
This was definitely a learning process for me and I enjoyed EVERY minute of it. I can't wait to put on another one. I felt an
overwhelmingly amount pride and joy watching not only my FS staff compete but a broad spectrum of culinary experts from the
Coast Guard to the Navy. Wow is all I can say. They left me speechless.

The Navy showed up to the competition with two teams and like us in their competition took First and Second Place. The SEC
Long Island Sound galley team came in 3rd. The first place team was comprised of two SN CS CSSN Daughtry and CSSN Custen.
A big congrats two those two junior personnel they came in and rocked the competition. Second place was comprised of CS1
Price and CSSN Andersen. Third place was FS2 Nardo and FS3 Scott. I am very proud of all of these teams they impressed not
only each other but the judges as well. This was a mystery basket competition; however they were emailed a few days ahead of
the competition with what they were receiving to ensure the best success possible. They got anything from Whole turkey Breast to
Mussels. They had to come up with a salad course followed by a pasta protein course. We were looking for creativity, sanitation,
team work, presentation, and flow of the meal. All the teams really met all the criteria, above and beyond if you ask me or any of
the judges for that matter.

This event could not have been possible without our sponsors which were in no particular order:
