The CIA Meets ACES November 12, 2008 By Staff Sergeant Guy Winks
This week, I brought Tama Murphy, the Director of Continuing Education at The Culinary Institute of America (CIA), down to Fort Lee, Virginia, to meet everyone at the Army Center of Excellence, Subsistence (ACES).
Tama first met with the ACES Commander and Sergeant Major, LTC Barnes and SGM Williams, and was given a briefing about the structure and mission of ACES. Next, she was given a tour of the Field Training Branch by a Distinguished Instructor, MSG Booker, where she was shown the Mobile Kitchen Trailer (MKT), Containerized Kitchen (CK) and the Kitchen, Company Level, Field Feeding (KCLFF). Then, it was back to Mifflin Hall to witness the heartfelt promotion ceremony of an outstanding Soldier from Staff Sergeant to Sergeant First Class. Lunch was then served by brand new Military Chefs in the Small Garrison Training Facility, and then Tama was given a tour of the entire schoolhouse from Basic Skills Training to the Advanced Culinary and Enlisted Aide courses.
Also while we were there, Tama had the opportunity to sit down with several Warrant Officers and Senior NCOs from various sections of ACES to discuss possible future programs between the military and the CIA. All in all, it was a fantastic trip and both Tama and I have expressed our deepest gratitude to the Officers and NCOs who made it possible.
