Chef David Arnold's Path to 5 Star Military Master Chef
MilitaryChefs.com’s 5 Star Military Chef Certification Program offers you the opportunity to test, document, and certify your food
service skills and knowledge. Using written/online exams, at home practical testing and your previous advancements and
accomplishments, we are able to verify and rank you in five separate categories of achievement. Each of these ranks coincides
with the stages in your career. Successfully completing each rank will lead you along the path to becoming one of the few who
have dominated all military food service, the Military Master Chef, the best of the best.
1 Star Military Culinarian - MC1 (Complete)
(An entry level military culinary professional)
Currently E-3 or above in military food service (Complete)
Passed MC1 online tests 1-7 with a score of 70% or higher (Complete)
Passed MC1 Practical - Practice for the ACF Certified Culinarian Practical Exam (Complete)
2 Star Military Sous Chef - MC2 (Complete)
(A military chef capable of supervising a shift in a foodservice operation)
Currently E-4 or above in military food service (Complete)
Passed MC2 online tests 1-8 with a score of 70% or higher (Complete)
Passed MC2 Practical - Practice for the ACF Certified Sous Chef Practical Exam and the ACF Category S (Complete)
3 Star Military Chef - MC3
(A military chef capable of supervising and performing all food production in foodservice operations including banquet halls, off
site catering companies, institutional foodservice, colligate food service, business style food service, hotels, clubs, hospitals,
noncommercial food service and hold positions as personal chefs on yachts, private homes, or hotels.)
Currently E-5 or above in military food service
Passed MC3 online tests 1-8 80% or higher
Passed MC3 Practical - Practice for the ACF Chef Practical Exam and the ACF Student Team Competition
4 Star Military Executive Chef - MC4
(A military chef capable of performing as a department head responsible for all culinary aspects in foodservice operations
including banquet halls, off site catering, institutional foodservice, colligate food service, business style food service,
noncommercial food service, clubs, or the owner of a foodservice operation.)
Currently a Certified 3 Star Military Chef - MC3 (Complete)
Currently E-6 or above in military food service
Currently an ACF Certified Chef de Cuisine (CCC) or above
Hold an Associates Degree in Business, Hospitality or Culinary Arts
Passed online tests 1-7 with a score of 80% or higher
Passed MC4 Practical - Practice for the ACF Certified Executive Chef Practical Exam
5 Star Military Master Chef - MC5
(The best of the best and few and far between, Military Master Chefs possess the highest degree of military and civilian food
service knowledge. They excel in all aspects of the business and culinary side of foodservice. They have proven themselves as
executive chefs through the ACF certification process, culinary competition success, civilian college education, military
advancement, leadership and food service management experience. During their time in service to the country, Military Master
Chef’s have conquered every aspect of military food service and have brilliantly set themselves up for success in retirement.)
Currently a certified 4 Star Military Executive Chef - MC4
Currently E-7 or above in military food service
Currently an ACF Certified Executive Chef (CEC) or above
Hold a Bachelors Degree in Business, Hospitality or Culinary Arts
Acted as captain or manager of an ACF culinary team or equivalent
Passed MC5 Practical – Practice for ACF Category A/B, C, K, P
